Happiness: Can You Fake It ‘Till You Make It?

Do you ever find yourself perpetually unhappy, or even just kind of “blah”? A slave to the daily grind, waking up each day just to go to bed and do it all over again?

Even though you may have great friends, the perfect boyfriend, and tons of followers on Instagram, a house and a dog, you are still struggling to smile or make jokes.

Let me tell you a little bit about me that I have never shared before.

I have everything I could possibly want or need in life to be happy. I have a partner who loves me unconditionally (and, when I’m myself, makes me laugh), two amazing kids that light up my whole world, a cozy home and acreage, two of the cuddliest dogs in the world, and so much more. And yet Keelan was always asking me why I was so serious. So unhappy. So miserable. So sad. So overwhelmed. So anxious.

Truth be told, I didn’t know. I do go through times where depression kicks my ass, but these were during times where I felt fine and would get frustrated with being asked such a question.

“I’m fine.”

Thinking about this now, I’m realizing that “fine” isn’t good enough. “Fine” doesn’t allow me to be the mom, wife, or friend I want to be. “Fine” doesn’t allow me to show up as the person I so badly want to be for the people whose lives I touch. I needed to find a way to be good, great, amazing, without faking it.

The transformative power I have found behind personal development and coaching has been a game changer for me. With a little bit of honest introspection and work, I am able to see how a shift in mindset can change your entire life. Not the things on the outside – those are outside of our control – but the way we feel about things on the inside. The transformation is always within you. You are in charge of your own happiness!

This week, I want to challenge you to take a moment and write a list of things you’ve accomplished that you are proud of, no matter how small they may seem. Celebrate what you already have, what you’ve already done, and what you continue to do each day, because honestly, life is pretty great! Teach your brain to identify and celebrate the positive things, and it will change your life.

Let me know how this goes for you! Share your list with me; I’d love to chat about it!

xoxo

Danielle
